Applications are invited for the above-indicated vacancy within Rapid Innovation Group.  The incumbent will report to the Manager: Archives.

Job Purpose:

The News Archivist is an integral member of the Rapid Innovation Group Archives team, tasked with ensuring the effective, searchable, and accurate archival support of the news gathering process. The archives team is responsible for the systematic cataloguing, preservation, and management of all generated audio-visual content by Rapid Innovation Group for future utilization. Furthermore, the team is mandated to undertake the digitization of any footage procured by the channel across various formats.

 Key Responsibilities

MEDIA MANAGEMENT: 

  • Selecting material for archiving based on the channel’s established archive selection policy and procedures.
  • Maintaining comprehensive oversight of all incoming feeds from Ingest Operation and Postproduction.
  • Cataloguing and classification of audio-visual material in strict adherence to prescribed metadata standards and schemas.
  • Accurate documentation of all copyright information and any associated restrictions applicable to the content.
  • Regular review and update of metadata to ensure continued accuracy and relevance.
  • Conducting routine maintenance of production and archive system storage to optimize system efficiency.

 MEDIA PROVISION AND CLIENT LIAISON :

  • Facilitating the acquisition and retrieval of archive records through the Newsroom Computer System (NRCS).
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of all content requests to the client.
  • Providing professional customer service to all news users and archive licensees, including guidance on the use and interpretation of archival assets.
  • Liaising effectively with all internal departments to ensure the systematic gathering, recording, and archiving of valuable content.
  • Maintaining and optimizing user-friendly archive search systems.

 REPORTING AND LIAISON:

  • Reporting to Management on all issues that impact operational effectiveness.
  • Liaising with IT Support and Management concerning all system-related and technical issues affecting archive operations.
  • Collaborating with the IT department to assess system failures and patterns that impact daily production.
  • Engaging with the IT department for the regular update of Tape Library software and the manual shelving of backup tapes.
  • Preparing and generating comprehensive handover reports for the collection, analysis, and summarization of information pertinent to the archive operation.

 Skills and Competencies

  • Possession of a relevant undergraduate qualification in Library and Information Science or Archives and Records Management.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in information management, with a specific focus on audio-visual archiving or broadcasting environments.
  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge of television archiving processes.
  • A thorough understanding of copyright laws relevant to audio-visual archive practice.
  • Basic video editing skills.
  • Proficiency in working with Newsroom Computer Systems (NRCS) such as Dalet or AVID is considered advantageous.
  • A proven ability to function as a collaborative team player with a strong passion for news and current affairs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed administrative skills.
